using a vinyl stencil to silk screen a t-shirt
I learned how to do this at Techshop.
The coach was very patient with me because I chose a very difficult design for the first time.
I decided to do this instruction in the vinyl section of the project --
This is the trickiest step if you ask me.
The silk screening section is easy.
You will need: an image access to the vinyl cutting process, an image that you would like to put on your shirt.
Select a simple image for the first time
If possible, similar to what I chose.
What makes the image simple?
The vinyl part you are going to remove and the part you are going to leave should be very thick.
For example, the letters on my design are easy to remove, but there are too many very thin spots and lines on the picture.
Even the circles around the image are hard.
Enter the image into the computer in some way-
Take a picture, scan and so on.
This construct assumes that you know how to send the image to vinyl.
If you don\'t, find someone to do it for you.
Remember to reverse the image.
You can see the photos before and after here.
You should now have a piece of vinyl with your design in it and attached to the back.
Here is your vinyl template.
You\'re going to peel the vinyl off the back of the paper.
It took me almost 2 hours to do this. really.
Reason: my first time
Once I start writing letters, it gets faster. It\'s hard to say which parts of the tree image are retained and which parts will appear. There are many small parts and many thin parts in the image first and foremost the largest area of the image, so that I can see the image \"appear\" more easily \".
Note that in this design, your eyes make a tree look like a tree, but it\'s actually just a series of vertical lines.
Really think about negative space.
Once all vinyl is removed from your negative space, protect it with a sticky piece of paper.
Put your vinyl on the screen.
Make sure the frame is square.
Peel off a corner, stick it firmly, and slowly peel off the paper from under vinyl.
As you can see in the second photo, I pushed vinyl firmly onto the screen with a plastic spatula.
Once the back of the paper falls off, then you need to remove the protective sticky paper.
If you don\'t push the template firmly onto the screen, a part of the vinyl will stay on paper and disrupt your design.
This is another reason to use simple images, and there are fewer small bits that need to be attached.
When some vinyl is left behind, pull them down with tweezers and stick them on the screen.
Surprisingly, this technology works and you can\'t do it in the last t-
Where I do this. (
Actually, my coach did it.
Did I mention she was patient? )
Some vinyl is torn when the sticky backing is removed.
We can put it back and you can\'t see that mistake either.
Once your template is fixed on the screen, you can apply the ink and screen of your project.
When you compare the final product to the original image, you can see the details that are not applied.
For example, dribs and drabs on the tree.
This is because most of the trees are removed (
Vinyl was removed to allow the ink to flow. )
They have to stay in order for these small places to appear.
I have to manually re-press those that do show up.
The good news is that everyone loves this shirt and you won\'t know it doesn\'t match the original image unless you look side by side.
I did it at techshop!
